Are you ready to book a guided tour in Dubrovnik? I’m thrilled to share with you my 5 favorite tours that will help you get the most out of this Croatian gem.
I did not expect to like Dubrovnik as much as I did. Normally I steer clear of over-visited destinations like this, but late October turned out to be the perfect time to finally stop by.
In recent years, I’ve also become a fan of guided tours. If you asked me 5 years ago, I would have laughed and said no, I explore on my own. But getting the lay of the land at the beginning of a trip and some tips from local guides is invaluable. Especially if you’re limited on time.
I have done all the research and exploring for you, so you can just book and enjoy. These are the most popular and highly-rated tours in Dubrovnik!
Article overview
1. Highlights of Dubrovnik Tour
⏱ DURATION: 8 h │ 🌟 RATING: 5/5 │ 👭 GROUP SIZE: Private │ 🚗 Pick up included
If you only have one day to discover the best of Dubrovnik and the surrounding region, this is the perfect tour for you.
Begin your adventure in the heart of Dubrovnik, where your knowledgeable guide (Boris is fantastic) will lead you through the Old Town. This makes such a difference, especially if you’re a history buff like me.
Next, venture to the historic city of Haswk, perched high above the stunning Konavle Valley. From this vantage point, take in the breathtaking views of the lush, vast landscapes. I hadn’t even heard about this place before.
Continue your journey with a walking tour of Cavtat, one of my favorite towns in Croatia. Then finish your day in Ston on the Pelješac Peninsula, famous for its ancient walls and salt production, where you’ll have the opportunity to sample the region’s exquisite wines and freshest seafood.
With round-trip transfer from your Dubrovnik hotel included, you can sit back, relax, and just enjoy.
2. Game of Thrones filming locations
⏱ DURATION: 2-3 hours │ 🌟 RATING: 5/5 │ 👭 GROUP SIZE: max. 9 │🚗 Meeting point
This is the best Game of Thrones tour in Dubrovnik as Robert, the guide, was an extra on the show. He has a lot of knowledge and was easy to talk to, almost like a friend.
You’ll see all the most prominent sites featured in the show, such as the Lovrijenac Fortress (Red Keep), Pile Gate (King’s Landing Gates) and the Jesuit Staircase (Great Sept of Baelor), while getting behind-the-scenes insights and trivia. Rob even had screenshots from the series to compare with real locations.
For me, the highlight was West Harbour where you stand below both the Fort and the City Walls looking out over clear green water. If you’re a GoT fan you’ll recognize it as Blackwater Bay, the dock of King’s Landing.
3. Elaphiti Islands Full-day Cruise
⏱ DURATION: 8 hours │ 🌟 RATING: 4.9/5 │ 👭 GROUP SIZE: 20+ │ 🚗 Pick up available
This full-day cruise takes you on a scenic journey along the stunning Adriatic Coast, visiting the three picturesque islands of Lopud, Sipan, and Kolocep.
Your first stop is the charming island of Lopud, where you’ll have several hours of free time to explore from the botanical gardens at Djordjic Mayneri Park to relaxing on sandy Šunj beach. In my mind one of the best beaches in Croatia.
After lunch onboard, complete with meat, fish, and vegetarian options and alcoholic beverages, continue to the scenic harbor at Sipan known as the “Mediterranean as it used to be.”
Your final destination is the charming island of Kolocep, renowned for its stunning caves, dramatic cliffs and inviting sandy beach. Spend the rest of your day swimming and snorkeling.
I loved the Elaphiti Islands! After a few days of exploring the Old Town, it felt like a vacation from our Dubrovnik holiday.
4. Lokrum Island Kayaking Tour
⏱ DURATION: 2 h│ 🌟 RATING: 4.9/5 │ 👭 GROUP SIZE: Max. 20 │🚗 Meeting point
This guided kayaking tour takes you from the Old Town port to the nearby Lokrum Island, a lush nature reserve. It is one of the most popular tours in Dubrovnik for a reason.
Meet your experienced guide at the Old Town port and receive a brief safety instruction before setting off in your kayak. Along the way, your guides will share some interesting stories about Dubrovnik and show you the sights.
Upon arrival, you’ll visit Betina Cave and pause for refreshing swimming and snorkeling with provided equipment. You also have the option to go cliff diving and take a break for snacks.
It looked like so much fun for the whole family!
5. Dubrovnik Old Town walking tour
⏱ DURATION: 1.5 h │ 🌟 RATING: 4.9/5 │ 👭 GROUP SIZE: Large │🚗 Meeting point
A guided walking tour of Dubrovnik’s Old Town is a must-do to appreciate the city’s rich history and stunning architecture. It is a great way to get the lay of the land before you explore on your own.
Step onto the white limestone streets that have witnessed centuries of history, and marvel at the imposing city walls that have stood as a symbol of Dubrovnik’s resilience and strength for over 1,400 years.
One of the first stops on your tour is the Franciscan Monastery, a beautiful complex with an inner courtyard of columns. Then you continue to Orlando’s Column and Onofrio’s Fountain, a masterpiece of hydraulic engineering built in 1438.
The tour also takes you to Rector’s Palace, an impressive example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture that served as the seat of Dubrovnik’s government during the Republic era. This was the highlight for me, I even went back for a little photoshoot here the next day. It is stunning!
Finally, you’ll visit the Cathedral of the Assumption, a baroque church that rose from the ashes of the devastating earthquake of 1667. Throughout your walking tour, your guide will share fascinating stories, historical anecdotes and cultural insights.
