After many visits to Mallorca over the years I am confident in saying that Cala Figuera is the most beautiful village on the island. From the moment I set foot in this picturesque fishing port, I was in love.
Imagine narrow winding streets lined with whitewashed houses, pink and purple bougainvillea spilling over balconies, and the gentle hum of the sea in the background. It’s the kind of place where time seems to slow down, inviting you to savor every moment.
This year I broke my own rule of not traveling in southern Europe during July and August and went to Mallorca with my mom and sister. I have been several times before, so this year we wanted to stay away from the crowds and there’s no better place than Cala Figuera.
So join me on a journey through the top things to do in Cala Figuera, the best restaurants and places to stay.
Article overview
How to get to Cala Figuera
Set on the southeastern coast of Mallorca, you’ll find Cala Figuera only 52 kilometers from Palma Airport. It is relatively easy to get there by car, taxi, private transfer, or bus.
By car
The most convenient way to reach Cala Figuera is by renting a car at the airport. A car is a must to get the most out of Mallorca, some of the most beautiful attractions are not connected to public transport. Usually, I wouldn’t say I like driving in unknown places, but it was totally fine in Mallorca.
Pro tip >> Normally I always rent through DiscoverCars, however, in Mallorca it doesn’t get better than offUgo. Pick-up and drop-off is 100% contactless and the price includes full insurance without excess fee, in addition to 24/7 pick-up.
By taxi
Taxis are readily available at the airport, simply head to the taxi rank outside the arrivals terminal. The taxi ride to Cala Figuera typically takes around 45 minutes and costs between €120 and €150, depending on traffic and time of day.
If you prefer to have someone waiting on you in the arrivals hall to help you with your luggage, consider booking a private transfer through one of my favorite providers Holiday Taxis.
By public transport
If you prefer public transport, you can take a bus from the airport to Cala Figuera. First, find the A51 bus at the far end of the bus parking. Cross the road when you exit the terminal building and then go right. The bus stop is just a little metal sign. I checked the bus times on Google Maps because the sign’s timetable was incorrect.
In Campos, transfer to the 516 bus that stops in Santanyi and Santanyi Beach before its end station in Cala Figuera.
Pro tip >> Outside of Palma, paying your bus fare with a card instead of cash can save you up to 40%. It is super easy, just tap your card when you get on and off the bus, or transfer to another line.
✅ DON’T FORGET TRAVEL INSURANCE!
SafetyWing is an affordable subscription travel insurance that you can purchase without knowing your itinerary in advance and even after departure.
Best time to visit Mallorca
The best time to visit Cala Figuera, and Mallorca in general, is in spring (April to June) and early fall (September to October). Then the weather is pleasantly warm, and the crowds are smaller than during the crazy busy peak summer season.
I prefer early October because most restaurants and hotels are still open and the ocean is warm, when most schools have started up again so fewer people occupy the beaches.
Top things to do in Cala Figuera
Even though Cala Figuera is a small, mostly untouched local fishing village, there are still some great things to do. And if you jump on a bus you have a lot more options.
Cala Figuera is made up of two inlets or “fingers” – Caló d’en Boira and Caló d’en Busques, with the latter being the main area. We spent a whole week in Cala Figuera and would have liked to stay even longer. Let’s take a closer look.
Explore the harbor
The heart of Cala Figuera is its picturesque harbor, where traditional fishing boats, known as “llauts”, bob gently on the crystal-clear waters. It looks like one of those picture-perfect postcards with white and sandstone fisherman’s houses with green doors and shutters lining both sides.
Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront, watch fishermen mending their nets, and soak in the serene atmosphere. You’ll also find several charming cafes and restaurants here, perfect for enjoying a meal with a view.
Enjoy fresh seafood
As a traditional fishing village, it’s no surprise Cala Figuera is renowned for its seafood. Many of the village’s restaurants serve freshly caught fish and seafood, prepared using traditional Mallorcan recipes.
I wish I loved seafood, believe me, I have tried. I love fish, I just can’t deal with octopus, shellfish, etc. Looking over at people’s plates it looked so fresh and absolutely delicious, but I just can’t deal with the weird sweet taste. And I’m from Norway.
But anyway, if you’re a seafood lover, a dinner by the water in Cala Figuera is a must. Below you see the main pedestrian street, during the warmer months, there are also several stalls here selling cotton candy, toys, crêpes, and cold drinks.
Hike to the Cala Mondragó Natural Park
Just a short drive or a scenic hike from Caló d’en Boira, Cala Mondragó Natural Park offers stunning landscapes and pristine beaches.
The park boasts well-marked trails that lead you through pine forests, past rocky coves, and down to the turquoise waters of Cala Mondragó and S’Amarador. It’s an ideal spot for a day of hiking, swimming, and picnicking in nature.
S’Amarador is one of my favorite beaches in Mallorca and from Cala Figuera a taxi cost around €15. I love it there because it doesn’t feel as touristy even in July and August.
There are no hotels around the beach, only a small kiosk selling basic food and drinks. A few sunbeds are available for rent, so get there early if you don’t have your own umbrella.
Do yoga at Casa Mandala
After a lot of walking and exploring nothing is better than recharging with a yoga class at Casa Mandala Yoga Shala. The Shala, with its peaceful and welcoming atmosphere, provides the perfect setting for both beginners and seasoned practitioners to deepen their yoga practice.
The yoga classes focus not just on physical postures, but also on breathwork and meditation, helping you achieve a holistic sense of well-being.
🌟 Pro tip >> Discovering yoga and retreats has changed my life forever. You can never go wrong with investing in yourself. ´Mallorca is one of the best places in the world to join a retreat, whether it is fitness, yoga, Reiki, Ayurveda or general wellness. I book all my retreats through Tripaneer, click here to check out the current selection.
Visit the local markets
We took the bus to the nearby town of Santanyí twice, to visit the vibrant Wednesday and Saturday markets. Here, you can browse stalls brimming with fresh produce, handmade crafts, bags, clothes, and traditional Mallorcan goods.
It’s a great place to pick up souvenirs, sample local delicacies, and mingle with the friendly locals and expats. I bought one of the handmade purple mandala dishes below for my rings. So cute!
Take a boat tour
One of the best ways to explore Cala Figuera is from the water by joining a boat tour. Several operators offer excursions from Caló d’en Busques that take you to hidden coves, sea caves, and pristine beaches most easily accessed by boat.
🌟 This 1-hour cruise takes you past caves once used as smugglers’ hideouts and the interesting rock formation of Es Pontás. Jump in the clear waters of Caló des Moro to swim or snorkel, and learn about Mallorca’s past as you pass the historic fishing shacks of S’Almunia.
🌟 This 2.5 boat tour takes you to all the same places including Cala Marmols, a virgin and quiet cove. You get two chances to get in the water, snorkeling gear and a beer or soft drink is included.
Relax at Cala Santanyí Beach
There is no beach in Cala Figuera, but there are several places along the waterfront where you can jump in the ocean. Just walk along until you see others swimming or a set of stairs. I never got in the water here, so I don’t know the best spot.
However, just a few kilometers from Cala Figuera you’ll find Cala Santanyí Beach, a beautiful sandy bay. It is family-friendly, with calm waters and plenty of amenities, including sunbeds, umbrellas, and beachside cafes. You can easily get there from Cala Figuera by taking bus 516.
Where to stay in Cala Figuera
We were lucky and got a great deal on Hotel Santanyi Port, a newly refurbished hotel in the center of Cala Figuera. The rooms are simple but beautifully done.
The hotel also boasts balconies, a restaurant and a pool with sunbeds and cabanas. and best of all, the bus to surrounding towns and beaches stops right outside the hotel door.
I think we paid around €1650 for three people including breakfast, which might seem like a lot, but in July in Mallorca, it is a steal. We booked it in April, and by May, the same room cost over €2200.
The next time I return to Cala Figuera, I’ll rent this two-bedroom house down by the port. I can not express in words how incredibly beautiful it is down there in the morning, so I can only imagine sitting on that balcony with a cup of tea and just enjoying the view.
It is a more authentic experience because most people living down here are locals. On my morning walk between I witnessed an older lady opening all her shutters and doors before sweeping the sidewalk, as she has probably done every day for 70 years. So beautiful.
Just make sure to get in early, August next year is already booked out. Click here to check availability.
Best restaurants in Cala Figuera
Even though Cala Figuera is a small village, there are a lot of great restaurants to choose from. Of all the restaurants we tried, these are my favorites.
C@n Calma
We loved our tapas meal at C@n Calma, a cozy restaurant on a patio in the middle of Cala Figuera. It was the tastiest, freshest and cheapest sit-down meal we had during our week in Mallorca.
My favorite dishes were the gambas with honey and chili, baked goat cheese, parmesan potatoes and lentil salad with feta cheese. Remember also to try the almond cake with vanilla ice cream.
The waitresses and the owner of the restaurant are super friendly. I only wish we had discovered it sooner so we could have returned several times.
Restaurante Pura Vida
Pura Vida is a charming restaurant that offers a mix of contemporary Mediterranean and international cuisine. The menu includes everything from fresh seafood and juicy steaks to vegetarian options and gourmet tapas.
I mean, you can’t come to Spain without enjoying tapas at least once a day. Right?
The restaurant’s terrace provides a lovely setting for a romantic dinner, with views of the glittering ocean and the surrounding cliffs adding to the ambiance. Pura Vida also has a pool club area where you can hang out during the day.
Bon Bar
Bon Bar is one of the most popular restaurants for fresh seafood in Cala Figuera, among locals and tourists alike. It has the best view of all the eateries along the water, and big parasols protect you from the heat. In July it was extremely hot here even at night.
The menu features a variety of Mediterranean dishes, with an emphasis on fresh seafood and locally sourced ingredients. Choose between grilled prawns, mussels, clams scallops, and fried calamari, or the burger as I would.
If you can, I would call in advance to reserve a table closest to the railing for the best possible views. And Enjoy!
