Are you looking for the best budget accommodation in Bali? I get it, Bali is no longer the super cheap backpacker haven it used to be. I’m missing those $3 makeshift rooms on the beach, but at the same time, I’m not. Haha. So is it still possible to travel Bali on a budget? Yes.
After staying in over 100 hotels and villas in Bali, I have made a list of the best value accommodation the island offers. The best part is that going budget in Bali doesn’t mean that you have to stay in a crappy hostel dorm. There are many insanely stunning properties, even in the budget range.
To help plan your next trip to the island of dreams I want to share my top budget picks with you, so you can save your cash for more important things like pretentious cocktails, drunken tattoos and experiences.
I know we all have different ideas of what “budget” means, but in my mind, it’s under $70 a night for a double room. And most of these are even less 👇
Article overview
Finding budget accommodation in Bali
Book in advance: Planning ahead can often secure you better rates, especially if you’re traveling during peak season. Many hotels and guesthouses offer early bird discounts for bookings made several months in advance.
Stay in guesthouses or homestays: Opt for local guesthouses or homestays instead of international hotel chains. These accommodations are often more affordable and provide a more authentic Balinese experience.
The host I stayed with in Ubud brought us local food, brilliant advice and lent us traditional clothing to wear at the temple. So much better than a chain resort on a busy beach.
Travel during the off-season: Visiting Bali during the off-peak season (typically from January to April and late September to November) can significantly reduce accommodation costs.
Luckily, February-April is my favorite time to visit because everything is lushly green after the rainy season. The island is also less crowded, so many hotels offer discounts to attract guests.
Check Agoda: While I use Booking.com for the rest of the world, I usually book accommodation in SEA through Agoda. They often do flash sales where you can actually score some pretty sweet deals.

My favorite budget hotels in Bali
Keep in mind that these are places where I have found great deals, though I usually stay away from Bali during the high season in July and August. Prices go up and down, but all these were under $70 when I included them.
1. Sawah Indah Villa (Sidemen)
I love coming to East Bali to relax and recharge in nature among rice fields, volcanos and spectacular viewpoints. The value you get here is ridiculous compared to the South.
One of my favorite budget hotels (although it doesn’t look like it) in Sidemen is Sarah Indah Villa. With rooms starting at €35 including breakfast, you can’t really go wrong anyways, but with a property like this, you’ll feel like you got the deal of a lifetime.
The rooms are light and beautifully decorated, but most importantly, also clean. I really enjoyed having breakfast and dinner in the restaurant most days. Everything was super fresh and tasty, but the staff was the true highlight. I can’t wait to return!
2. ESA di Kubu Homestay (North Bali)
If you are comfortable staying in a very simple room, you will absolutely love the highly-rated ESA di Kubu Homestay. This is where you will experience the true warmth and hospitality of the beautiful Balinese people.
Dekha, the owner, is so passionate about the environment and his village, and will happily share everything with you. He will introduce you to the locals, show you around local farms, take you on walking tours to all the waterfalls around Sekumpul and even some hidden gems.
His wife, Sunny, cooks all the meals with fresh produce from the garden and local markets. You can even get the sweetest fresh fruit straight from the trees. The WiFi is also great, and I only paid $120 for a week. I mean, does it get any better?
3. Keuma Villa & Resto (Jatiluwih)
On a hillside overlooking part of Jatiluwih Rice Terraces sits Keuma Villa & Resto by The Lavana. How stunning is this room? It is the perfect spot for a romantic weekend or just when you need to relax in nature.
And while the property itself is stunning, it is the staff that is the highlight. They go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. I got several recommendations for things to do that I didn’t know about even after visiting several times.
The hiking trails in beautiful Jatiluwih start just outside the resort, so you can enjoy the rice terraces before and after tourists roll in.
4. Lemon Guest House (Canggu)
Located in Canggu, about 1.5 km from the beach, Lemon Guest House is one of my OG favorite budget hotels in Bali. Boasting simple yet modern accommodation with air conditioning and fast wifi, I think it is a steal for the central location.
Each of the six rooms has a terrace with pool views, a fridge and a modern bathroom with a shower. Breakfast for two is also included in the price and is served in a small café across the street.
The pool is set in a beautifully manicured garden which feels like an oasis compared to the busy streets just outside. I also have to mention the extremely kind and helpful staff who are always around to assist you with anything you might need.
The rooms are around $50 a night so it’s not hard to understand why this place is one of the top-rated accommodation options in Canggu. Sometimes Agoda says there is no availability for some reason, so check Booking.com too just to be sure.
5. The Spare Room Bali (Canggu)
While I think you can get better value these days in terms of the actual property, I decided to keep the Spare Room Bali on the list because I loved living here. When I moved to Bali in 2017, this Alice in Wonderland-themed building was the place I called home. I loved it here and I’ve never slept in a more comfortable bed in Bali ever.
There were mostly young people staying here at the time so we were kind of our own little community. It’s the perfect place to stay if you’re traveling solo and want to meet some new people. I remember thinking I was living in my own version of Melrose Place (for those of you who are old enough to remember).
Remember to bring a reusable bottle because The Spare Room offers free water refills so you don’t have to keep buying plastic all the time. The wifi is fast and reliable which I know is super important to my fellow travel bloggers and digital nomads.
There is also a small kitchenette next to the reception but I never used it so I can’t tell you if everything worked or not. It can be quite hard to find this place so I recommend using Google Maps or just asking around.
6. Blu Mango (Ubud)
If you’re looking for a budget room to stay long-term in Ubud, I love Blu Mango. The family who runs it is incredibly nice and I only paid $450 for a month in March.
It will, of course, be more expensive in the high season, but for the location and breakfast included, the price I paid offered insane value. My room was super clean, bed comfortable and the shower had strong water pressure which is not always the case in Bali.
Located just off Jl. Monkey Forest, it is very quiet, yet you are within walking distance of all the action, including great restaurants, shops and yoga studios.
7. Jawi House & Painter (Ubud)
A haven for the vegans, yogis and artists of the world, Ubud is like a vacation from your Bali holiday. It’s a place where you can go to work on your mind, body and soul and recharge your batteries.
Made famous overnight by the movie “Eat, Pray, Love” Ubud is now busier than ever. But I do think it is still one of the best places in Bali to get some great deals on quality accommodation.
Jawi House & Painter is probably my favorite Bali budget Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in. Located in an alley off of Jl. Monkey Forest, you’re within walking distance of everything you could possibly need.
Yoga studios, art galleries, boutiques, great restaurants like Watercress and Three Monkeys and of course the Sacred Monkey Forest. Ubud is also a great place to rent a scooter and drive around by yourself. Just 10 minutes away you’ll find Goa Gajah Temple and 20 minutes away lies the beautiful Tegalalang Rice Terraces.
Putu, the exceptional host, lives with her family below the guest rooms. We rented the apartment on the top floor and could not have been happier. It is decorated so beautifully and there are palm trees and other tropical flowers outside every window.
Breakfast is included and you can choose between a few different options which Putu will deliver to your room in the morning. She also got us the appropriate sashes to wear when visiting temples and insisted on buying us Babi Guling for dinner one night. Putu is amazing!
And the best part is that you get all this for around $30 a night! Can you believe it?
8. B.Saya (Ubud)
If you’re willing to stay a bit further out of town you’ll not surprisingly get a lot more bang for your buck. B.Saya is a stunning villa complex surrounded by rice fields and palm trees about 5 minutes on a scooter from Ubud Palace.
This is a place where you can truly relax and enjoy the spiritual and cultural center of Bali. One of my favorite walks in Bali, Campuhan Ridge Walk, is just a few minutes away.
B.Saya offers different packages including things like daily yoga, cooking classes and chakra healing. But if you’re only after a place to stay, their villas start at $35 including breakfast. I’ve seen Agoda do sales with prices as low as $28.
The whole property at B.Saya is so incredibly beautiful, you just have to check it out!
9. D’padang Homestay (Uluwatu)
While I love the vibe in Canggu, Uluwatu on the Bukit Peninsula is where I feel the most at home in Bali. This is where you’ll find all the best white sand beaches and some of the best surf breaks on the island.
To fully be able to enjoy the Bukit you need to rent a scooter because all the cool places are kind of scattered around the west/south coast.
The location of D’padang Homestay, between Uluwatu Cliff and Padang Padang (Lauban Sait) Beach, couldn’t be better. You can easily walk to both beaches in under 20 minutes. You also have some great restaurants and warungs like Suka Espresso, La Baracca and Nyoman Local Food right on your doorstep.
Although I’m sure you’ll spend most of your time down here on the beach, the property also features a pretty nice pool surrounded by sun loungers and palm trees.
10. Pinggan Cliff (Kintamani)
This unique hotel overlooks one of my favorite views in all of Bali. Experiencing sunrise over Pinggan Village is one of the top things to do on the island.
The individual rooms boast windows and glass doors that make the most of the pool and volcano view. Breakfast is also included in the already affordable price.
I wish there had been hotels here when I went to Pinggan so I wouldn’t have had to compete with people for the best spots at the viewpoints. You can just roll out of bed here!
Don’t forget to buy an eSIM! Gone are the days when you had to get a local SIM and hope you wouldn’t get scammed.
I always use Airalo. You can easily download a data pack without having to change SIM cards. Use code NEWTOAIRALO15 to take 15% off your first order.
Affordable areas in Bali
Generally, any area in Bali north of Canggu is more affordable. There are some expensive properties in Ubud and Munduk for example, but you can also find great guesthouses for a steal. So here’s a quick overview:
Sanur: a laid-back coastal town on the southeastern side of Bali. It offers a more relaxed atmosphere with a beautiful beachfront, local markets, and a variety of affordable accommodations.
Amed: Located on the northeastern coast of Bali, Amed is a quiet fishing village known for its stunning underwater scenery, making it a haven for divers and snorkelers. Amed offers a range of budget-friendly accommodations, from beachfront bungalows to homestays.
Sidemen: a picturesque village set in the lush hills of eastern Bali. It’s surrounded by rice terraces, rivers and traditional Balinese culture. The accommodations are generally more affordable, and the area is ideal for hiking, yoga, and experiencing local village life.
Lovina: Situated on the northern coast of Bali, Lovina is known for its black sand beaches, calm seas and dolphin-watching tours. Lovina is much quieter than the southern tourist hubs and offers a range of budget accommodations. It’s a great spot for relaxation, diving, and exploring nearby waterfalls and hot springs.
